Notes I’m Not Ready to Finish

Notes I’m Not Ready to Finish

I have notes that are only a few words long: a sentence with no ending, a question in the margin, a thought I meant to come back to. For a while, I treated them like unfinished chores. Now I let some of them remain open.

The Value of a Fragment

A fragment can hold the shape of a feeling without pinning it down. “The room felt different after the rain” may be all I know that day. I can leave it there instead of inventing a reason just to make the sentence feel complete.

Return Without Pressure

When I reread an old note, I sometimes remember what came next. Other times, the words belong to a version of me I can only look at from a little distance. Both are useful; neither requires me to turn the note into a lesson.

Make Room on the Page

A blank line can be part of the writing. I leave one after a thought when I’m not sure where it goes, then move on with my day. The page doesn’t need to resolve everything before I close the notebook.
